Makar’s disease is a fatal coincidence. The boy was injured during a difficult birth, it was too late to have a caesarean section, and doctors had to apply a vacuum. The consequences were irreparable - cerebral palsy, spastic diplegia, delayed psychomotor development. For the Stetsyuk family, a new stage of life has come, a difficult and long way of rehabilitating his son. Now the main task is to put him on his feet and teach him to walk normally.
And it all started so well ... Wedding, beloved husband and such a long-awaited pregnancy, long-awaited son! In short, ordinary life - suddenly it has a completely different content. Bitter, unfair. Necessity, purpose. Protect, leave the child. Find a way, a solution, money, doctors. You have to try, try, search, despair and still continue ... Everything is like in the life of the Makar family.
- All nine months flew by very easily, quickly and without complications. The son had to be born a healthy child, all the tests, ultrasound readings, were normal for me and him. But something went wrong. The baby did not want to be born, recalls Irina, Makar’s mother. - Five hours, that’s how long the birth lasted. Makar was born in a serious condition: he did not shout, did not move and did not breathe, in a state of severe asphyxia.
This period the family remembers with a shudder. A month in resuscitation and a terrible verdict - your son - will be a plant, you will not do anything, do not carry anywhere, he will just lie down, eat through the probe and not react to anything. Makar’s parents did not give up, did not despair, endured everything that was ahead of them.
- Two weeks after discharge we already had a masseur, in seven months we went to the clinic of Professor Kozyavkin (Truskavets), for an early, five-day rehabilitation. In this clinic, Makar has already undergone 10 rehabilitation courses and achieved good results. Therefore, we really want to go to them for rehabilitation to achieve new skills and consolidate existing ones, - says Irina.
Treatment of cerebral palsy is a long and expensive process.
- Although Makar is growing intensively, bones and muscles are growing, it is necessary to constantly reduce muscle tone so that there are no contacts that interfere with normal movement. His every move is a great work for us, and a great victory for him! - says Irina. - It is necessary to constantly develop him intellectually, because he has preserved the intellect, he understands everything and wants to do everything yourself. It is necessary to constantly undergo rehabilitation courses, comprehensive classes under the guidance of specialists, but this requires large funds ...
Now Makara does not know, and does not stop, does not look like a plant, eats well, laughs, understands everything, can count and even say something. Can sit quietly and even walk a little from room to room, playing ball. And how he knows how to rejoice! All this, thanks to faith and daily work with rehabilitators and speech therapists.
And a little magic! And here is the magic, you ask?
Most of all, Makar loves to play with the soft tiger, his favorite toy, which has been with Makar since his birth, like a magic mascot that will never offend him. And as you know, in Chinese mythology, the tiger was revered not only as the king of beasts, but also as a storm of demons, in particular those who bring disease. He protected the people of China from disease, as he now protects and helps Makar.
Our children make us stronger, better and kinder. Our children help us to believe in the incredible, in a fairy tale and its magic.

Makar Stetsyuk underwent another course of therapy at the International Rehabilitation Clinic (Truskavets). This is the first of two Ufand-paid treatment courses for Makar. The boy has already returned home from treatment and is feeling well. Rehabilitation was completed and was successful. Makar tried! It has become much better to stand on your feet, better bends the legs at the knee, which allows you to take a more correct step. After rehabilitation, decreased muscle tone, Makar became much more agile and better able to maintain balance.
