In six months, Amina fell ill for the first time. At first, the temperature was not high, so we decided that it was a common cold. But already the next morning, they noticed that her diaper was completely dry for the whole day. Our pediatrician immediately sent our daughter for an ultrasound. We decided to do an examination of the kidneys and heart right away.
After a complete examination, the doctor said that Amina has pyelonephritis and a congenital heart defect - an open ductus arteriosus. It was a complete shock for us! Because the child did not have any symptoms that would signal a health problem.
Later, we cured pyelonephritis. As for the heart, the cardiologist recommended waiting up to a year - the size of the duct is not so large, and it may still close on its own.
We did so. But here we were beset by the same trouble - frequent pyelonephritis.
The doctor - a nephrologist insisted on an X-ray examination of the kidneys - to find out the reason for the frequent recurrences with the kidneys. And the x-ray showed that Amina has bilateral vesicoureteral reflux of the 3rd degree. It is possible to get rid of this disease only by surgery. In February 2023, the daughter underwent kidney surgery. The operation was successful!
Rejoicing that we have overcome one problem, we moved on to another. In September of this year, during a heart examination, we realized that the diagnosis was an open ductus arteriosus, and it did not leave us. The doctor immediately referred us to a cardiac surgeon, who emphasized that surgery was necessary. Through acquaintances, we found the contacts of a children’s endovascular surgeon of the NISSK named after M.M. Amosov Ditkivskyi Ihor Oleksandrovych, who confirmed that an operation was necessary.
Since we live in the times of modern technologies, no one operates on an open heart anymore, but this operation is done endovascularly. But for this you need an ocduder-spiral device, which costs UAH 80 000.
Because of the war in the country, kindergartens in Kharkiv are closed, so I am forced to be a housewife, take care of Amina and her older brother. Amina is a very clever and smart girl. Since she had already undergone kidney surgery, any physical activity and jumping were prohibited. Amina Grinchenko was successfully operated on at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery named after M.M. Amosov. During endovascular surgery, the open ductus arteriosus is closed through the vessels with the help of an occluder-spiral. The operation is gentle and minimally traumatic. According to cardiac surgeon Ihor Ditkivskyi, the operation went without complications. Heart rate is normal, blood circulation has been restored. The girl feels well and was discharged home the next day after the operation.
