In July of this year, my son had a stroke. This really surprised all of Arseny’s family, because his son leads a proper lifestyle: eats on a schedule, goes in for sports. After long-term treatment, there were several explanations for the cause of the stroke: overload of the body, lack of sleep, constant fatigue. Arseniy is a student of the Kyiv NMU named after Bogomolets, the state form of education; excellent, reads a lot (sits until 3 o’clock at night), participates in conferences, seminars, takes prizes; speaks three foreign languages. After a thorough examination: CT scan of the brain, MRI of the brain and blood vessels, ultrasound of the neck - doctors confirmed that no neurological disorders in the child.
After treatment in the summer, health seemed to return to normal. In September, the son went to study in Kyiv. On the advice of medical university professors, he did an ultrasound of the heart. As a result, it was revealed that congenital heart disease is a defect of the atrial septum of the heart. Usually such a diagnosis is reported at the birth of a child in the maternity hospital. Arseny was repeatedly examined and diagnosed by specialists, because I repeatedly signed an agreement to conduct medical tests and experiments, as my husband and I have an incompatibility of blood type due to rhesus factor. Everything was fine until the morning of November 29 - when Arseniy had an ischemic heart attack again with light physical exertion: dizziness, short-term loss of consciousness, impaired vision, coordination of movements, speech disorders. With the help of friends, acquaintances managed to remove the attack. On the advice of a neurologist, after repeated MRI of the brain, it was revealed: microangiopathy, a small cyst of the arachnoid membrane. All this has happened and is happening because of heart disease.
According to doctors’ recommendations, surgery is needed urgently, as ischemic heart attacks can recur at any moment and the consequences can be unpredictable. The operation requires an expensive implant - endovascular occluder, to close the defect of the atrial septum of the heart. The cause of stroke at a young age can be an open oval window, which can be found in the norm in 25% of the healthy population. It was found that blood clots formed in varicose veins, under certain conditions through an open oval window get into the left heart and blood vessels of the brain causing a stroke. Each subsequent stroke can be fatal. It is possible to prevent the next stroke by endovascular closure of the defect with an occluder.
