Captive of silence.
Kristina Kalytyuk needs hearing aids.
The girl is 15 years old. She has bilateral sensorineural hearing loss of 2-3 degrees, irreversible hearing loss. The diagnosis was first made two years ago and came as a complete surprise to Christina and her mother. In elementary school, the girl was not ill at all, she danced, received prizes and diplomas. Then vision problems began, myopia developed, dancing was banned. Christina began to get sick often, sore throat gave a complication to her ears. And now the girl hears almost nothing. Without hearing aids, he will no longer be able to communicate with family and friends and study at school. Almost everyone has had a black stripe in their lives, when trouble followed one after another, and obsessive questions sounded in my head: “How? What for? Why? ”
Svetlana, Christina’s mother, remembers well the day when trouble came to their house. In 2008, they rested at sea, living in a rented apartment. There was a gas leak. The whole family was in intensive care. After this tragedy, Christina’s health began to decline. The girl lost her sight, developed myopia, and had frequent nosebleeds.
In 2014, Svetlana noticed that her daughter was hard of hearing. Doctors conducted a comprehensive examination, after which they diagnosed "unilateral sensorineural hearing loss of 2nd degree."
- It was a shock for us, we thought - we will not survive. Deafness! This could not have happened to us! How so? Error! Wept, worried. We were told: this is an irreversible process, reconcile, the main thing is not to get worse, - recalls Svetlana, Christina’s mother.
But it got worse. In January 2015, Christina contracted sore throat. After the illness, the girl almost stopped hearing with her second ear. We went to the hospital. The diagnosis is "sensorineural hearing loss of 3 degrees".
- Doctors have suggested that Christina has Usher syndrome, a congenital genetic disease. It affected his eyesight and hearing, and carbon monoxide poisoning and sore throat only provoked the development of the disease. However, the exact verdict was not passed, - says Svetlana.
Christina was treated at the hospital, but there is no chance of hearing restoration. The only thing that will help the girl is hearing aids.
However, with deafness of 3 degrees, hearing aids are not issued free of charge, and Christina’s mother is unable to buy them. She is raising her daughter alone, she has not lived with her husband for a long time, she is divorced.
Without hearing aids, a girl will one day completely lose the ability to perceive sounds, will be in complete silence.
- We live with my daughter together, there is no one to help us, - admits Svetlana. - What will happen to Christina now? How will she go to school now? How will her condition and mood change? I’m even afraid to imagine… We have one hope for the participation of good people.
