Darina is a beloved and desired child in our family. Nothing foreshadowed trouble, as my pregnancy went well until childbirth began. There was a secondary weakness of labor, stimulated by oxytocin. The doctor “squeezed out” the child, and as a result, there was oxygen starvation. Our daughter suffered severe asphyxia. 8 hours after birth, Darina was admitted to the Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital, in the neonatal intensive care unit, in a serious condition. The child was hospitalized with dominant severe neurological symptoms, tonic seizures, cephalohematoma in the right parietal bone, and aspiration pneumonia. After 3 weeks, the child was discharged home in a satisfactory condition, without saying anything about the possible consequences.
At first, the daughter ate well, gained weight, but was restless, she cried a lot at night. And at two months, Darina suddenly began to lose weight and refused to eat, in general. We ended up in the Lviv Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital "Ohmadit". Then we switched to tube feeding, because all the reflexes were gone.
At 5 months, the child began to shake the arm and leg. We were sent to the West Ukrainian Specialized Children’s Medical Center, to the Department of Neurology. Then we were immediately diagnosed with a bunch of diagnoses: early organic lesion of the central nervous system of a severe degree, microcephaly, spastic tetraparesis with impaired motor function, symptomatic epilepsy with focal daily seizures and ZPRR. From that time, we began the struggle for life.
We have completed more than 20 rehabilitation courses in different centers. Thanks to these rehabilitations and treatment, Darina learned a lot: she began to eat with a spoon, holds her head better, began to point with her eyes at some objects, tries to complete the tasks that doctors ask her to take home.
