Three years ago, our favorite son Denis was born. Our whole family was very happy to see him. But the next day, doctors stunned us with the news that our son has a heart defect. Namely, congenital heart disease is a defect of the interventricular septum. But the doctors reassured us, saying that perhaps this defect will "close" as Denis grows.
Time passed, my son grew up, but the "hole" in his heart did not close. Later, doctors ruled that hoping for a miracle is no longer necessary and surgery should be performed to remove the birth defect.
How? Isn’t he so small? His heart is still so tiny ... We were horrified at the thought that our child needed surgery on an open and stopped heart. But, of course, we are ready for anything for the sake of our son’s health.
And so, cardiac surgeons at the Amosov Institute offered us an alternative - a minimally invasive operation to remove the defect using an occluder. An indisputable advantage of this method is that it does not require open lane surgery , cardiac arrest, artificial circulation. Rehabilitation time after such an intervention is also significantly shorter - only a few days under supervision, and you can return home.
Of course, we were very happy with this alternative ... but quarantine struck, all hospitals were closed, scheduled operations were canceled, and we remained in an incomprehensible "suspended" state.
In early 2021, we returned to the issue of surgery for our son. Denis is growing up, and he needs more and more strength and energy for a full life. Atrial septal defect was closed endovascularly, using a special device - an occluder. The operation lasted more than an hour. The work of the heart and circulatory system is restored. Denis is feeling well, and the next day after the operation he was discharged home.
