Elmira was born a healthy child. Until the age of two and a half, there were no problems with her daughter’s health, until a routine examination revealed a congenital heart disease - a secondary defect of the atrial septum, pulmonary hypertension of I-II degree. At the Kharkiv Heart Institute, doctors said that our defect could be surgically closed with an open heart. I immediately refused. Later, we learned that such defects can be closed by endovascular method, it is less traumatic and safer for the child. For more information and a complete examination, we went to the Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery named after NM Amosova. Doctors at the Institute told us that Elmira’s defect could be closed in a gentle, endovascular way with the help of an occluder. The operation itself is free, but I need to buy an expensive occluder myself. I am a single mother, I have been working not so long ago, as I was sitting with my daughter all the time. Elmira often suffers from viral diseases and due to secondary nephropathy (kidney disease) we have to go to the kidneys every 3 months. On my own, I can’t raise that kind of money. Elmira Martynova successfully underwent surgery at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery named after NM Amosova (Kyiv). The atrial septal defect is successfully closed with a special "patch" - an occluder. The operation lasted more than an hour, the work of the heart and circulatory system was restored. Nothing threatens the girl’s health. She feels good. On the third day after the operation, Elmira was discharged home.
