Eva is a very long-awaited child. A daughter was born at 34 weeks of pregnancy. We were not ready for the baby to be born prematurely. Doctors warned us in advance that due to prematurity the child will not be able to breathe on its own, and she will be cared for in intensive care. But Eve had completely different plans - from the first seconds of her life, she began to breathe on her own. Then, it all seemed like a miracle to all of us. Now that we know Eve’s character, we are sure that with her perseverance and love for life it could not have been otherwise. During her stay in the postpartum ward, Eva underwent an ultrasound of the heart, which was suspected for the first time: an oval window and ductus arteriosus were opened, but then doctors said it was just a prematurity and eventually everything will return to normal. At 1.5 months, a repeat ultrasound was performed, after which we were sent for a consultation to the CSTO Cardiology Center.
The Children’s Cardiac Center confirmed our fears and said that this is not an open oval window, but a congenital heart disease - a defect of the atrial septum, and advised to consult other specialists. Additional consultation and examination confirmed Eva’s diagnosis. This upset us a lot, but there was little hope that the defect would close on its own, so it was decided to monitor Eva’s condition and do a repeat ultrasound when she is 6 months old.
At 6 months we did an ultrasound again. There were no improvements, moreover - the daughter grew, the load on the heart increased and the dilatation of the right ventricles of the heart increased, because of this Eva became worse to gain weight. After reviewing the new results, the cardiologist told us about a possible operation to close the defect by endovascular method. This is a minimally invasive operation, which does not require any special rehabilitation, and the child recovers very quickly. But it is necessary to observe the child in addition to make sure that such an operation is possible. The work of the heart and circulatory system is restored. Eva is feeling well. The next day after the operation, the girl was discharged home.
