UAH 280,000 COLLECTED. Treatment is paid. Another complex of chemotherapy has passed.
A young man from Vinnytsia has been battling cancer for several months and is currently undergoing chemotherapy in Turkey. Ivan Bedri’s family is short of more than $ 30,000 to continue treatment.
Back in early August, Vanechka was a cheerful, active and very sociable child. He rode a two-wheeled bicycle, played football and read books. This was taught to his brother by his older sister Masha when she was 4 years old, playing with him at school. Vanya easily makes new acquaintances, and in a few minutes fascinates both adults and children. He always smiles, and even if he falls and hits his knee, he says, "Mommy, don’t worry, she’ll heal fast!"
He was always fine!
Until one day in the garden he was sick.
- This was the first signal, but not yet a reason to see a doctor. Since it was August and the heat, we attributed it to overheating and hyperreactivity, - recalls Eugene, Vanya’s mother. - But a week later the vomiting recurred, and during training he began to drift aside. Immediately after consulting a doctor and conducting a series of tests and examinations, we received a preliminary diagnosis of encephalitis and, as local doctors were not sure, we were sent to Kyiv, to the Romodanov Institute.
After several MRIs, all of which suggested encephalitis, and a series of tests, Vanya had a biopsy. The result of histology, obtained 2 weeks later, sounded like thunder to the Bedri family, in the clear sky - a malignant embryonic tumor with a cell division rate of 35%. Vanya and her parents were sent to the Cancer Institute, subtly hinting that they have very little chance in Ukraine…
- Until the last Vanya could not make an accurate diagnosis. Embryonic tumor is only a general diagnosis. It was necessary to determine a more detailed type of disease. The mechanism of treatment depended on it, - Evgenia Bedriy speaks. - The condition of the son could not be called critical, but it was getting worse. Vanya began to speak more slowly, forgetting the words. Move less actively because coordination is impaired. Also, changes in behavior have become noticeable. He became very emotional - often crying and capricious, although it did not look like him ...
As Vanya’s condition began to deteriorate and our doctors could not make an accurate diagnosis, offering standard chemotherapy, which is completely ineffective in the case of brain tumors, the Bedri family began to seek refuge in other countries. Sent requests to Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany, Israel, Spain, Turkey. After long correspondence, they received invitations from Spain, Germany and Turkey. But the bills of 250 thousand euros for surgery and subsequent treatment were simply unrealistic for Vanya’s parents.
Thanks to good people, friends and acquaintances, the Bedri family managed to raise about 70 thousand dollars. Therefore, it was decided to accept an invitation from the Acibadem Clinic (Turkey) and Professor Memet Ozek - one of the best pediatric neurosurgeons in the world. In October, Vanya underwent surgery to remove the two largest of the three tumors, and in early November the boy was given an accurate diagnosis - diffuse glioma with a mutation with an index of 67-90%. According to the World Health Organization, such a tumor is a grade IV malignancy.
- The operation was successful, 70% of the tumor was removed, and Vanechka quickly recovered, but the aggressive tumor began to grow again and by the beginning of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, her son’s condition began to deteriorate. But we believe that with the efforts of professional doctors, we will be able to stop the growth and kill most cancer cells, - says Eugene.
Vanya never ceases to dream ... about the little dog that Dad will buy when he returns home, about playing with friends in the garden, about how to teach Masha, to cook a delicious soup according to Vanya’s recipe ..., never ceases to say that everything will heal and he will be healthy…
And we do not stop believing in your kindness, which will definitely save Vanya.

01/29/2019 Vanya Bedriy underwent another complex of chemotherapy at the Acibadem Clinic (Turkey). The first stage of treatment is behind. On January 16, Vanya underwent another follow-up MRI. The study was conducted and the conclusions are as follows: compared to the previous MRI from 05.11.2018, the tumor remains did not increase, contrast is not so pronounced, but the number of cells did not decrease. The tumor decreased. Of course, this is not the result that Vanya’s doctors and parents had hoped for. For the final and real assessment, an MRI is needed around February 20, 2019. The picture can change in any direction. So far, Vanya is receiving supportive chemistry. The results of the last session of radiotherapy showed: platelets - 59 and neutrophils - 0.44 (many times below normal, but increased). Vanya’s parents continue to look for and consult about the possibility of using the latest developments in the fight against diffuse glioma in various clinics around the world. Currently, Vanya and her parents are at home in Vinnytsia. Vanya’s family tries to live in such a way as not to notice the weakness in her son’s body and the lack of vision. They learn to walk more confidently, play, walk in the fresh air, sled. And most importantly - do not lose hope and faith that everything will be GOOD! Dear Vanya, we sincerely thank you for your support and help: "We ourselves would not have overcome such a path and would not have hope to move forward."
