Seven-year-old Nastya has bilateral neurosensory deafness of the 4th degree. This means that without hearing aids, the girl cannot distinguish words, and the world around her turns into a chaotic set of sounds and constant noise, as from a passing train. Nastya will be helped by high-frequency digital hearing aids. If they are not installed now, the girl will forget to speak. Then you can forget about school and communication with others.
The town of Gorokh is one of the oldest settlements in Volhynia. The first written mention of it dates back to 1240. For a long time Gorokhov was an important point of fair trade. The products of Gorokhov furriers, shoemakers and tailors were in great demand far beyond Volhynia. Seven years ago, the blue-eyed girl Nastya was born in this historic city.
- My husband and I really wanted a girl. When we learned that we would have a girl - it was a real miracle, we were insanely happy! - recalls Catherine, Nastya’s mother.
Nastya was born a healthy child, there were no complications or health problems. But at the age of two, the girl caught a bad cold and was misdiagnosed, which later affected her health.
"When we were discharged from the hospital, it seemed to me that my daughter did not react to sounds at all," says Ekaterina. - But the doctors assured that everything was fine, that the child simply had his ears plugged. Soon everything will be fine. But it happened differently. A few months later, Nastya was diagnosed with bilateral deafness.
The parents began to take their daughter to classes with a speech therapist and speech pathologist. And by the age of five, the girl had formed a phrasal speech.
- Recently, I noticed that Nastya began to listen to what I said, to my words. Trying to understand, to understand them. There was no such thing before, - Ekaterina notes. Nastya parses the words when they speak very loudly, almost shouting. At the same time, she should approach the interlocutor almost closely. So she can hear something.
At the last consultation with a deaf and dumb doctor, it turned out that the girl’s hearing became worse - bilateral deafness of the second or third degree grew into the fourth degree. Doctors advise to install hearing aids as soon as possible.
- We can’t buy hearing aids ourselves, there is no money. I work as a librarian. The salary, you know, is tiny. The husband does not have a permanent job. We were denied registration of disability from the very beginning, they said: one thing the ear hears, if only both… So what kind of disabled person is she? - says Catherine. - Therefore, the daughter is not entitled to any benefits - for treatment, drugs, hearing aids.
This fall Nastya has to go to the first grade. And the girl needs devices as soon as possible - so that she gets used to them, learns to hear them well and speak fully. After all, Nastya really wants to communicate with her peers. She approaches the children on the playground. But he can’t ask what their names are, whether they will play. He looks at them and is silent. The children continue to play without her. And Nastya returns to her mother. Silent, and without tears…
