I’m in pain

UAH 105,000 COLLECTED. METAL STRUCTURE-IMPLANT PAID. OPERATED

Yulia Balandina will be saved by spine surgery.

In September, Julia Balandina from the Kirovograd region will be twelve years old. Julia goes outside only in sizeless T-shirts or spacious dresses - to disguise her back, curved with the letter S. The girl has progressive scoliosis of the 4th degree. Conservative treatment was useless, the curvature progresses, the girl suffers from constant pain. A complex operation with the installation of an expensive metal structure on the spine will help save Julia. But its price for the girl’s parents is prohibitive.

Julia was born a healthy child and grew up without any health problems. From an early age, Julia was active: cycling, skating, dancing and football, even participated in competitions. Up to 10 years there were no back problems. Or rather, they were not noticed.

Julia’s back problems were first discovered at a medical school two years ago. In the girl’s medical card, the doctors then wrote: "problem posture", recommended swimming and physical therapy. At that time, her parents did not notice the external manifestations of the disease, and Julia did not complain about anything, she went to school, sports clubs and competitions.

- Everything changed two years ago - says Nina, Julia’s mother. - Julia literally grew by 10 cm in front of her eyes, her shoulders were crooked, and a hump was marked on her back.

At the Kirovohrad Children’s Hospital, the girl underwent an X-ray, which diagnosed her with grade 2 scoliosis, an S-curvature of the spine axis, and a disability. The girl was recommended to be observed by an orthopedic surgeon at the place of residence, physical activity was prohibited. Prescribed exercise therapy, massage, swimming pool and wearing a corset Sheno 23 hours a day.
This came as a shock to both Julia and her parents.

- Literally a year before that, my daughter and I rested at sea, swam, she was all right. Overlooked, - says bitterly Nina, the girl’s mother.

Even at the sports clubs where Julia was involved, no one saw that the girl’s back acquired unnatural curves.

- My daughter followed all the recommendations, wore a corset, and there were no improvements. The corset hurt her badly. But Julia was ready to endure any torment, just to straighten her spine, - says Nina.

They tried all kinds of treatments. The mother took her daughter to a set of gymnastic exercises and special therapy. But the girl only got worse.

Julia often began to complain of back pain, she could not sit in class for long. It became difficult for her to walk and stand. Breathing problems began.

The parents took their daughter to the Kirovohrad Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital for examination. X-rays showed that the curvature had progressed markedly, and scoliosis had already reached the 4th, most severe degree.

The girl was sent for a consultation to the Kharkov Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology named after Professor MI Sitenko. The surgeon who conducted the examination said that Julia was growing rapidly, the muscular corset was not sufficiently formed, and the curvature was very large. Therefore, a corset and gymnastics will not help - the disease progresses, the deformation of the chest has already begun, the pressure on the internal organs begins. The girl needs an operation - the installation of metal structures on the spine.
- When I walk for a long time, I start stabbing here, - Julia tries to point to the shoulder blade. "This pain runs all over my body like a sharp spasm."

The disease breaks not only the body but also the character. Until recently, an open, cheerful, sociable girl began to close in on herself. She doesn’t want to go outside one more time, she’s embarrassed to visit the pool - it seems to her that everyone is looking at her crooked back.

- I’m tired of being constantly shy, I want to communicate with peers, like all ordinary children, - admits Julia. - Worst of all is the constant excruciating pain. But I try to be patient - I’m preparing for the new school year.

Without surgery, the girl is at risk of severe disability. But metal construction is expensive, it is not paid from the state budget. Works in a family with two children, only mother, father Julia - retired on disability, recently underwent 2 cancer surgeries, their family budget is not enough to pay for construction. But we can save the girl. Let’s do it.

Head of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of NUMK "University Clinic" of Kharkiv National Medical University Dmitry Petrenko (Kharkov):“The girl had severe progressive deformity of the spine. Due to the rapidly developing scoliosis, the child can not walk for a long time, play with their peers, and pain in the spine does not allow for a long time to sit in class. An operation is needed to correct the curvature using a structure that will be installed in the spine and correct the curvature. The next day the child will start to get up, and in a month will go to school. A year after the operation, Yulia will lead a full life, play mobile games, study and enjoy life. "

The supplier of the metal construction-implant issued an invoice for UAH 105,000.

Yulia Balandina was successfully operated on at the University Clinic of the Kharkiv National Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology named after Professor MI Sitenko . The girl underwent surgical correction with fixation of the spine with a special metal structure. Dmitry Petrenko, head of the department of orthopedics and traumatology at the Medical University, told about the result of the operation and the postoperative condition of the girl: “Julia was admitted to the ward with severe scoliosis, which developed from early childhood. Curvature of the spine significantly impaired lung and heart function. If surgery had not been performed in the near future, spinal cord compression and limb paralysis could have developed. As a result of the operation, the curvature is almost completely corrected. The girl will be discharged home soon. In a few weeks, Julia will return to school and will live a normal life and enjoy a happy and healthy childhood. "

Dear Julia, thank the Ufond partners for helping and saving their daughter’s life! Accept our gratitude friends! We will definitely follow the fate of the girl.
