Angelina Chernysheva from the city of Izyum is 18 years old. The girl has the most severe degree of curvature - 4th. Over the past year, the ridge has arched to 50 degrees. The girl finds it difficult to breathe and walk, the pain does not go away even at night. Only a complex operation will help to straighten Angelina’s back - installation of a metal structure on the spine. The operation will be carried out at the expense of the state, but the girl’s mother must pay for the expensive metal structure herself. She can’t afford to collect the required amount.
Angelina is a freshman at Donetsk National Medical University and has not believed in miracles and Santa Claus for a long time.
- For ten years, to straighten my back, I wore corrective corsets, went swimming and physical therapy, went to massage and rehabilitation, - says Angelina. - But the miracle did not happen. On the contrary, the hump has grown. And you have to live with it somehow.
Angelina’s health problems began in early childhood. Initially, there was an X-shaped curvature of the legs: up to 6 years the girl wore a splint ( orthopedic device that provides almost complete fixation of the leg, excluding movements in the joint - Ufond ), orthoses and orthopedic insoles.
- Yes, Alechka’s childhood was not easy, - Natalia, the girl’s mother, remembers. - Due to concomitant diseases, such as cardiomyopathy, crooked neck, dyskinesia of the biliary tract and hydrocephalus, Angelina spent all her childhood in hospital beds. Thanks to her iron nature and incredible patience, we managed to overcome all these diseases.
At the age of 9, Angelina and her mother Natalia went for a routine examination by an orthopedist.
- I did not even think that my daughter could have something even more serious than the disease, - says Natalia.
"It’s normal," the orthopedist reassured Natalia, examining the girl’s back. - This is scoliosis. Probably, you are sitting in the wrong class, you are squatting at the computer at home.
"I sit like everyone else," Angelina said then. - Only none of the children have back pain, and I have very, very much.
The doctor recommended the girl a swimming pool, physical therapy and massage. According to him, all this should definitely help.
Courses of massages, exercise therapy, electrophoresis, treatment in sanatoriums began. After the massage and exercises, Anya felt some relief, the pain receded, but not for long. It was absolutely impossible to sleep on my back. And in 2014, Angelina received a disability for scoliosis, as treatment was ineffective, and was diagnosed with S-shaped idiopathic scoliosis grade 3.
"We immediately started wearing Sheno’s corset," says Natalia. - My daughter slept in a corset, went to school, was at home. Given that this is a plastic structure in which the child walked constantly, it was ridicule from other children, and pain and tears. But, unfortunately, this did not bring the expected results. - Every effort was made to avoid the operation, given its trauma and danger.
In January 2020, Angelina’s mother sought advice from the University Clinic of Kharkiv National Medical University. The girl was examined by the head of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology Dmitry Petrenko and diagnosed with right-sided thoracic idiopathic scoliosis of the 4th degree. The doctor said that only surgery would help Angelina.
"If it is not done, the distortion will progress," he warned. - Deformation has already led to dysfunction of internal organs. The heart works intermittently, from compression and displacement of the organs there is a deformation of the chest with impaired external respiration.
Angelina’s operation will be performed with the help of special metal structures, which will strengthen the girl’s spine, she will have to pay. The fact is that state quotas do not cover the cost of expensive metal construction of the model that Angelina needs. And for the girl’s family, it’s an astronomical amount.
- Unfortunately, I do not have the funds needed for my daughter’s operation, - says Natalia. - Angelina’s father, with whom I was previously legally married, has been deprived of parental rights since 2005 and is a malicious non-payer of alimony. So I can only count on myself, raising two children.
The girl admitted that she is very afraid of surgery, but she is even more afraid of the prospect of being in a wheelchair.
- My girl and I are ready to go through all this. - Angelina has a dream - to become a doctor. Thanks to her efforts, her daughter successfully finished school and entered the Donetsk National Medical University on a budget. - I want my daughter’s dream to come true. And even more I want her to live. I am very afraid of losing her. For any parent, this is the greatest fear in life. That’s why I turn to everyone for help. If I do not have time to do the operation in time, irreversible consequences can occur, and I can simply lose it.
As a child, Angelina thought a lot and for a long time "Who wants to be." But at one point, the girl burst into tears and snatched a sheet from her notebook. And then on a new page I wrote only three words: "I want to be healthy."

Angelina Chernysheva was successfully operated on at the University Clinic of the Kharkiv National Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology named after Professor MI Small. The girl underwent correction of spinal curvature with the help of an implant, which allowed to completely correct the spinal deformity. After the rehabilitation period, Angelina will return to her normal life, will study and enjoy life.
A year later, no one will even see that the girl had surgery. Constant pains and torments in the past! Angelina will start a new life, without back pain and with hope for the future.
