Nikita is the long-awaited and only child in our family. The son was born at 37 weeks of pregnancy - very weak and developed more slowly than his peers. When Nikita was 3 months old, he did not hold his head and did not respond to sounds. After examination, doctors diagnosed Nikita - spastic tetraparesis, associated with the peculiarities of brain development and bilateral neurosensory hearing loss 3-4 degrees. From the age of six months, Nikita wore a hearing aid on his right ear and underwent intensive rehabilitation to overcome spastic tetraparesis. Fortunately, in the year Nikita has already learned to sit down on his own, and in the year 1.3 he has already tried to make his first independent steps. We were happy with the success of our son’s rehabilitation, and at the age of one and a half, Nikita was diagnosed with spastic tetraparesis. But there were no results with hearing. Wearing a hearing aid did not work.
At the age of 1 year and 10 months, Nikita planned to undergo cochlear implantation at the ENT Institute. Kolomiychenko, and before the operation did a CT scan. After examination, it turned out that Nikita has no semicircular tubules and snails on both sides. A new diagnosis was made - bilateral chronic sensorineural deafness, abnormal development of the inner ear on both sides. With this diagnosis, it was impossible for Nikita to have a hearing aid with a cochlear implant. In order for the son to be able to hear the world, he needs a brainstem implant - a method of restoring hearing in deaf patients who can not or should not undergo cochlear implant surgery. Unfortunately, such operations are not performed in Ukraine.
We began to look for clinics abroad that will be able to conduct Nikita surgery on the brainstem andand implantation. Such a clinic was found in Germany. Although initially there was an option for a specialist from a German clinic to come to Ukraine, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this option became impossible. Now Nikita is ready to accept and operate at the Fulda Neurosurgery Clinic (Germany) together with the necessary implant, which was purchased from the state budget by the Institute. Kolomiychenko, especially for Nikita. Now Nikita is 3.5 years old, he still can’t hear. There is no time to wait for the end of the pandemic, as the child’s age is critical, if you do not have surgery now, then it will be too late. That’s why we’re raising money for an operation in Germany. Since for our family, the amount of 18 thousand euros is unaffordable, we ask for your help. Tatiana Karpenko-Book, Dnipropetrovsk region
Prof. Dr. med. Director of the Clinic for Neurosurgery Robert Behr:"In the absence of a snail and an internal auditory canal, there is no other chance of hearing restoration than in CI. Nikita may have surgery for brainstem implantation. I recommend the operation at the earliest possible age, so that the rehabilitation after the operation was successful, and Nikita was able to go to a regular kindergarten and school.

The Fulda Neurosurgery Clinic charged 18,000 euros (611,406 hryvnias) for the operation and stay in the clinic.
