Book of consolations

Believe in a miracle.

Evelina Opulskaya will be helped by urgent surgery.

Evelyn is only six years old. The girl is the desired second child in the family. Evelina was born weak, and six months later doctors diagnosed her with a terrible disease: heart disease, atrial septal defect. In fact, a heart defect is a hole in the heart muscle that happens to heal on its own. But, unfortunately, Evelina is only increasing, the child has terrible symptoms of the consequences of the disease: weakness and shortness of breath. The girl is shown an urgent expensive operation with the installation of an occluder - a special patch on the heart. It is difficult to put into words how worried Evelina’s mother, Lyudmila, is about her daughter. Ufonda
journalist Nina Filatova tells the story of the girl to the People’s Artist of Ukraine, popular theater and film actress Olga Sumskaya.

You, Olya, listened to the story about the baby with such excitement, is this topic close to you?

Yes! I myself was born with a heart murmur, and when I was very young I was taken for examination to the Amosov Institute. The parents were insanely worried that the problem would worsen and turn into a heart defect. After all, when a child’s body grows rapidly, as happened with Evelinka, the total load increases, and the heart fails. But for me, thank God, as cardiologists expected, everything worked out. But years passed and this problem - heart disease - came into my life again.
Last year we underwent the operation of my mother, Anna Ivanovna. The operation was the most complicated - her heart valve was replaced, four shunts were installed. Mom is 82 years old, and we took a terrible risk, no one knew how it would end. And my mother did not want…, but our cardiologists agreed to perform such a risky operation. In those difficult days, I spent a lot of time in the Amosov clinic. There, in the intensive care unit, the wards of adults and children are located next to each other, and I saw such babies in the boxes… It’s a miracle, just a miracle that now surgeons successfully operate on even newborns! My sister and I came to the hospital for a month, took care of my mother, and I saw how worried the parents of the children were. I sympathized with them so much, I cried with them!
And now the problems of cardiac surgery are close to me: I work with the Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery. N. Amosov, I am a member of the Supervisory Board of the clinic, and we are trying to do everything possible to develop our cardiology, and doctors have the opportunity to purchase new devices. Recently, the topic of health care, and in particular, cardiology, is heard by everyone more because of the problems that were voiced by another of our famous talented cardiologist and director of the Heart Institute Boris Todurov. Well, a doctor can’t live by the saying: a shoemaker without boots. He just has to be able to use the latest expensive technology. Ukrainian cardiologists are working real miracles and the duty of politicians and the public is to find funds for the best know-how that will save even more lives.

Ludmila, Evelina’s mother, is a very cheerful, optimistic woman. When you communicate with her, you feel: for the sake of your child you will turn the mountains and do everything to make your daughter healthy and happy. But in the conversation she suddenly misses: she has recently lost 10 kg , she is so worried about her daughter’s upcoming operation. There is not enough money for the operation yet, and this postponement stretches the anxious anticipation of the decisive moment. Olya, can you advise Ludmila in what to look for support in such a difficult moment?

We must fight and believe in the most positive outcome of the operation! When we decided to have surgery on my mother, I prayed sincerely, I went to church, I believed that the Lord would help her heal. But you need to believe and fight, and in no case panic. It is your confidence, your mood, that is incredibly important. It is necessary to instill a positive in your loved ones. And tune in as much as possible to the best prospects. And this confidence is incredibly inspiring! And I would advise to turn to the most experienced doctors who know their business. Although you need to trust both young and talented surgeons!
You know, I reread Amosov’s book "Thoughts and Heart" twice. This is striking: it describes the surgeon’s experiences and feels his highest degree of responsibility for each patient. I would like every doctor to be so worried about the patient. By the way, the great cardiologist was an atheist, but with age he still came to the idea that everything is in the hands of higher powers, everything is in the hands of the Lord. We ourselves must believe in the miracle of healing, and then it will surely happen.

Almost 100,000 is a huge amount for an ordinary Ukrainian family with two children. Everything that the communal house did not take away is spent on living expenses for clothes, food, and children’s sections. It may take seven or ten years for a single family to raise so much money. Don’t you think that if the state does not finance such needs, women’s public organizations should take care of this problem? Is this topic closer to women?

Now, in a time of crisis, when it is extremely difficult to get proper health care funding, all hope is on people’s mercy. And the mercy of women in the first place, because we women are the driving force like no other! Men who have hardened in the political struggle forget about eternal values, about the need to be more proactive in the cause of good, in the cause of charity.
You know what I noticed: here you post a post asking for help to someone, people respond, but not so actively, and I think: how much you need to hook another to get a return and help! And you post a beautiful photo from a play or a glamorous photo shoot - thousands of likes. Charity cannot be nurtured through any state program. You need to teach yourself to show it: do not buy yourself an extra fashionable handbag, but go and spend this money on a sick child. Now, in such a difficult time, you can easily do without unnecessary glamor! And I am sure that there should be many more enterprising women who are ready to show themselves in charity. We just have to show ourselves in this field, we just have to remind politicians - men of mercy, call them, even, maybe, annoy them, if only they would hear us! What am I actually doing! And, of course, to help children, moms should unite, and television and social networks should be connected. The whole world will always be able to raise a large sum for treatment!

Do you believe that good deeds come back a hundredfold?

Everything comes back: both good and bad. It seems to me that life is built on the principle of a boomerang. All our actions are recorded in the heavenly office and then projected onto us. And every good deed returns a hundredfold. Just don’t think about it coming back! You don’t have to do good deeds out loud. The child is sick - help him, give him as much money as you can for treatment, but do not shout about it. Here I read about George Michael - he was a terrific philanthropist, but he did it quietly, and no one knew about it. But he transferred hundreds of thousands of dollars and thus saved many seemingly doomed people. And fortunately, there are many such quiet benefactors. I think that ideally such people with a big heart should lead the country. Ideally!

Evelina loves to sing. She listens to modern Ukrainian performers and enjoys small concerts at home. And when she turns seven, her mother will send the girl to the theater studio. Ludmila says that she is the daughter of a fine soul, and it is art that will help her open her inner world to others. You, Olya, are from the acting dynasty, and theater has entered your life since childhood. What could you wish Evelina’s family?

If you have the talent, desire to sing, play on stage, draw - parents need to pay attention to this and develop their abilities. I’m just sure that for Evelinka, this is such a driving force for recovery! When a child is winged, he believes in himself. He is surrounded by talented people, teachers - in this case, art heals! Art fills the soul and heart with energy. And when you manage to realize yourself, inspiration comes, and it’s also a miracle. Evelinka’s diagnosis is difficult, of course, but I’m sure her story will definitely be with a happy ending!
