People like Volodya are called "crystal children". This is due to the strong fragility of bones: children with this disease can have up to a dozen fractures a year, and bones break constantly, even just when walking.

The boy was born completely healthy, but from the age of four he often began to break something: his arm, then his thigh. The parents could not understand why their son had such fragile bones, and the doctors persuaded him "not to invent a disease." Later, after numerous examinations, doctors confirmed the boy’s rare disease - "imperfect osteogenesis".

Volodya grew up and even went to school, but his bones continued to break. In the second grade, the boy was no longer sitting at a desk, but in a wheelchair and studying at home. The parents did not give up, but because the disease is rare, they did not find specialists at home who could help the boy. Once parents were advised to go to Kharkiv, v the Institute of Pathology of the Spine and Joints named after Professor MI Sytenko. There, already in Volodya, the real treatment for strengthening bones began. At first, the parents did not notice any changes in their son’s health, but every four months they hopefully continued to travel to Kharkiv. The treatment paid off: since then, Volodya has not broken a single bone. Examinations confirmed that the bones became denser and stronger. Last year, the boy underwent surgery and a special metal plate was placed in his leg. Funds for the operation were collected throughout the region.

Recently, during another visit to Kharkiv, Volodya tried to stand on one leg. He was very worried, but he succeeded. Doctors are convinced that the bones have become stronger, but to walk properly you need to install the same plate in the other leg. This plate lengthens as the body grows, respectively, will help the guy for many years. The boy was glad that his dream would come true: despite a serious illness, he has a chance to walk. The only obstacle to achieving this dream is the lack of money in the family to install a metal plate.

Now Volodya is 15. With the help of the Internet and e-mail correspondence with teachers, he is diligently studying law at a local college. And recently the guy started going to the gym. Exercises for hands and press. He is very persistent and believes that even strangers will help him walk and run again, as he did as a child.

Doctor of Pediatric Orthopedics, Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology prof. E. Sytenko NAMS of Ukraine, Assistant of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education Pashenko Andriy Vitaliyovych:The planned surgical intervention is the next one and will be carried out in a planned manner, after a thorough examination of the patient and preparation for the surgical intervention itself. The operation is aimed at removing the rod of the left thigh, which was installed a few years ago in another hospital and which, for now, has cut through the bone and is located in m `which tissues. After removal of the rod, correction (correction) of deformations of the bones of the left thigh and left leg will be performed. The femur will be crossed in several places, in order to correct its deformation and then install in the middle of an individually made telescopic rod, which will keep bone fragments in anatomically correct position, prevent re-curvature of the bone, and reduce the likelihood of further fractures. design features of the rod ("passively" during the growth of the bone itself). With regard to surgical treatment of tibial deformities, correction of tibial and tibial deformities is planned, followed by installation of an individually made telescopic rod in the middle of the tibia,
Thus, after this stage of surgical treatment and subsequent rehabilitation treatment, the patient’s quality of life will improve, increase the efficiency of self-care, reduce the risk of recurrent fractures and significantly reduce the risk of recurrence, and - will be able to move independently without a wheelchair or external assistance.

Volodya Bazyuk successfully operated at the Kharkiv National University of Spine and Joint Pathology named after Professor MI Small. The next surgery was performed as planned. Volodya corrected the deformity of the left thigh and the bones of the left leg, followed by the installation of intramedullary telescopic fixators. After fusing the bones in the correct position, it is planned to teach Volodya to walk with both feet on crutches (crutches), and then without them. That will return the possibility of self-care and maximize the quality of life of the child.
Dear Volodya, thank you to Ukrainian and charity exchanges, Courage to the Bazaar and Ufond readers for helping their son! Accept our gratitude, friends! We will definitely follow the fate of the boy.
