Rostislav is the last child in our family, the fourth. The boy’s father died when I was six months pregnant. Since then, I raise children myself. Rostyk was born with a severe heart defect. This was determined in the maternity hospital, two weeks after the birth, heart murmurs were heard. We were immediately sent to the regional children’s clinic in Chernihiv. The child was taken to a hospital for examination, but the next day he was discharged and sent to the Amosov Institute, as the heart defect turned out to be very serious, and they could help us only in Kyiv. In three days we arrived for an examination in Amosov, where Rostislav was diagnosed with multiple, congenital heart disease - aortic valve stenosis, open ductus arteriosus. The first operation was performed immediately. Two days after the operation, cardiac surgeons said they would need two more surgeries, one at 8-9 years old and a third after coming of age. The first operation was performed surgically when the son was not 1 year old. Such operations are free of charge. Now, it’s time for the second operation. It is recommended to make it the safest way for a child - endovascular, using an occlusive spiral. But this device is expensive, I have to buy it myself, and the operation itself will be free. Head of the Department of Endovascular Treatment of Congenital and Acquired Heart Defects of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery named after MM Amosova Igor Ditkovsky (Kyiv): “Rostislav has a congenital heart defect - a combined aortic defect with a bicuspid aortic valve and an open ductus arteriosus. In 2010, the child underwent the first operation - balloon dilatation of the aortic valve to stabilize hemodynamics. Due to the peculiarities of the aortic valve defect, another operation will be required in the future. Given the planned surgical treatment - another defect, namely the open duct requires endovascular spiral closure in the near future. This is necessary to reduce the additional burden on the boy’s heart.
The supplier of the spiral occluder issued a bill for 64,200 hryvnias.

Rostislav Abzaev successfully underwent surgery at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery named after MM Amosova (Kyiv). The open arterial duct is successfully closed by means of a special "patch" - an occluder-spiral. The operation lasted less than an hour, the work of the heart and circulatory system was restored. The boy’s health is not in danger. He feels good. On the third day after the operation, Rostislav was discharged home.
