We learned about Ruslan’s illness very recently. My son loves football very much, so we decided to sign him up for training. But during a medical examination before classes, the doctors discovered that he had a congenital heart defect – an atrial septal defect.
At that moment, our life seemed to stop. As for any parents, this news was a terrible blow. We were confused, scared and did not know what to do next. While we were trying to understand the doctors’ words and find a way out, our son continued to dream about the football field and asked what color his uniform would be at training.
It is impossible to convey in words the pain of parents who realize that their child’s health is under threat. We understood only one thing: there is no time to delay, we need to act urgently.
We turned to the children’s cardiology center of St. Nicholas Hospital, where Ruslan was re-examined by specialists. The doctors confirmed the diagnosis, but at the same time gave us hope. With timely treatment, our son has every chance to grow up a healthy child, run, play sports and live a full life.
Unfortunately, because of the war, we, like many Ukrainian families, were forced to leave our home and start everything from scratch. To give our children a sense of stability and our own home, we purchased a mortgaged home. Therefore, today, despite the fact that my husband and I work, we cannot independently collect the necessary amount for an occluder for the operation.
That is why we turned to a charitable foundation and sincerely hope for the support of caring people. Every help brings our son closer to recovery and Ruslan's ability to live a full life. Please help! Jamila Karpey, Lviv region.

Based on absolute indicators, endovascular closure of the opening with an occluder of the required size was recommended.
