Oleg Vursulyak, a boy composer from Ivano-Frankivsk, needs urgent spine surgery.
Meet Oleg Vursulyak – a boy from Ivano-Frankivsk, a composer, pianist, programmer and descendant of the Skazki singing family, known in the Carpathian region, better known as the "Petrovychi" group. His uncle Petro Skazkiv, a dulcimer player, who once won the "Voice of the Country"! So, it is quite natural that Oleg also inherited a talent for music. And also: an absolute musical hear, which is considered as unique gift.
At the age of 14, Oleg writes music, he has his own supporters as a composer. And what is interesting, he teaches and sells his compositions on foreign platforms. He speaks English fluently, loves sciences. He draws and edits video clips and thereby challenges our slightly stereotyped world, because his congenital autism gives a different, more contrasting, rich and extraordinary worldview.
The winner of many creative competitions, including international ones, Oleg plays the piano professionally and spent a lot of time playing the instrument until recently. However, a progressive disease of the spine almost left the boy unable to play this year. And the decision to take an academic leave from the music school was taken by the parents as a desperate but inevitable step.
Oleg spent the previous seven years of his life in a corset, a hard plastic corset that rubs against the body and which can never be removed, because it was believed that it was supposed to prevent the further development of scoliosis.
Spine disease – so unexpected – was discovered in the boy at the age of eight, and immediately at the critical third stage of development. Training, exercises, the pool and massages kept the spine in good shape, and actually prevented the development of the disease for eight years. But the teenage growth boom nullified all the achievements of the past years.
Recently, doctors diagnosed Oleg with fourth-degree scoliosis, which is treated only by surgery. At first, the boy protested against the operation, but over time he resigned and agreed. The further, the worse his condition becomes: due to excessive curvature of the spine, the boy’s lungs are compressed, and he cannot breathe fully. And recently, another dangerous symptom appeared: due to displacement between the vertebral discs, the sensitivity in the neck and shoulder area disappears.
The surgery that doctors are proposing is to completely align the spine with a special metal implant. After the operation, repeated interventions are not required: the back will be flat for the rest of your life. However, the cost of treatment is prohibitively high. The implant alone costs more than 150,000 hryvnias – an unaffordable price for the family, especially in wartime. So, Oleg Vursulyak’s parents are appealing to all caring people to help raise money for the implant. Together we can return a healthy and fulfilling life to a talented boy.

Oleh Vursulyak was successfully operated on at the Mother and Child Center named after Professor Rudnev. The boy underwent correction of spinal curvature with the help of an implant, which made it possible to completely correct the spinal deformity. After the rehabilitation period, Oleg will return to his normal life, study and pursue his dream. In a year, no one will even see that the boy had an operation.
