Three-year-old Anya Sezko will be saved by heart surgery. Little Ani has a congenital heart defect - an open ductus arteriosus. The girl will be four years old in April, and, according to cardiac surgeons of the capital’s Heart Institute, she needs surgery - and in the near future. The hole in the heart will not close by itself, and without surgical treatment the girl may develop complications. So far, the size and shape of the defect allow you to close it gently, without cutting the chest, a special spiral - an occluder. The operation will be performed according to the state quota, but Ani’s parents must buy the expensive occluder themselves. But they do not have such an opportunity. Most of all, Anya loves four things: telling poems, singing songs, playing with dolls and dancing.
- The daughter has not yet begun to speak, but has already sung the melody while dancing, and quite accurately, she has good hearing, - says Antonina, Ani’s mother. - Now we are learning poems and songs together, she performs them with pleasure at home and in kindergarten. Anne likes to perform at matinees. Only it is necessary to control it all the time, to stop. The daughter is fascinated when she sings and starts dancing. And even minimal loads are now strictly forbidden to her.
Antonina found out about Ani’s heart problems recently during a routine check-up at the clinic. After an ultrasound, the cardiologist found a hole in the child’s heart and said that Ani had a congenital heart defect - an open ductus arteriosus. The doctors reassured him, saying that there was nothing wrong, the hole could close on its own.
- Anya suddenly began to often suffer from colds, complain of fatigue, poor weight gain, - says Antonina. And recently my daughter got otitis. Antibiotic treatment had a negative effect on the heart, as confirmed by a cardiogram. We hoped to the last that the strait would close on its own, as it was small, but our hopes were dashed.
Anya is very curious and sociable. The girl speaks well, she has a large vocabulary. She has a good memory, she easily remembers poems, songs, faces, names. She loves to play in the puppet theater and enjoys attending the theater club with her older sister Julia. The girl dreams of dancing, but doctors forbid her, because sports will put a heavy burden on the heart.
At a recent examination at the Kiev Heart Institute, cardiac surgeons said that the girl’s situation was deteriorating, there were problems with blood supply, there are already signs of heart failure. An operation is needed, which must be done as soon as possible.
It is still possible to perform it sparingly without opening the chest. And then the little girl’s life will change. She will go to first grade, be able to dance, play with peers - and get rid of common diseases.
All hope for good people is for us and you.

Roman Betsenko Head of the Department of Endovascular Surgery of the Heart Institute Andrei Khokhlov (Kiev):"She does not need surgical treatment - endovascular occlusion. The operation itself can be done at the expense of the budget, but it requires the purchase of an occluder - a device that will be a "patch" on the girl’s heart. After the operation, the child’s condition will significantly improve. ”
