The turning point

COLLECTED UAH 63,033. METAL PINS ARE PAID. OPERATED.

Eleven-year-old Vika lives with her mother in the Kharkiv region. From birth, she suffers from a severe and terrible disease in its insidiousness - imperfect osteogenesis. Such children have extremely fragile bones that break even from careless movement. Vika has already undergone several operations. There are two more ahead - as difficult as the previous ones, but able to return the girl to normal life. It is impossible to hold them at the same time. First of all, you need to save a severely deformed left shoulder and arm, and then the right.

About 60 fractures in 11 years of life! Fractures from falls or simply from careless movement. Unfortunately, this is not the plot of a fantasy film - it is the life of a child with imperfect osteogenesis. Such people are also called "crystal" or "glasses". All because they, due to genetic breakdown, do not produce bone collagen, which is responsible for the "elasticity" of bones.

Here is Vika from the small town of Krasnograd, Kharkiv region, just such a fragile, "crystal" girl. Vicky’s arms were severely deformed due to numerous fractures. So much so that she can’t unfold them completely, reach out to fasten the buttons on her back, or lift them straight up to get the book off the shelf. Not to mention the complexes that make her embarrassed to wear short-sleeved clothes. Oh, how important it is for an 11-year-old girl to feel beautiful, well, remember yourself as a teenager! Vika dreams of having her arms straightened. And Ira’s mother dreams that her daughter can rest on her arm and not break it.
Titanium telescopic rods have been specially designed for such children. They will grow together with the bones of children, requiring replacement not every six months or a year, but in 5-6 years. This complex operation cannot be performed on both hands at once. Now you need to save the left: the deformation of the arm is close to critical. The cost of these magic sliding pins is UAH 63,000.

After many years of treatment, the mother was able to find funds and operate on Vick’s legs so that her daughter could walk instead of in a wheelchair. Now her financial resources are exhausted. But we can help.

Let’s help Vicki, right?

Doctor of the Department of Pediatric Orthopedics of the Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology. prof. WE. Sitenko National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Assistant Professor of Traumatology and Orthopedics, Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education Andrey Vitalyevich Pashenko : An individually made telescopic rod will be installed in the humerus, which due to its design will "grow" with the child. Also, the installed rod will prevent further deformation of the bone and reduce the likelihood of fractures throughout life. Deformations of the ulna and radius will also be corrected and temporary fixators will be installed for anatomically correct fusion.
This operation will reduce the risk of re-fractures, 100% avoid deformations, and completely restore normal motor function of the hand.

The cost of the necessary equipment is UAH 63,033.

Collected: UAH 63,033 12/28/2018 Victoria Kozyuberda successfully operated at the Kharkiv National Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology named after Professor MI Sitenko . Vika was admitted to the pediatric orthopedics clinic of the Sitenko Institute with severe multiple deformities of the limbs due to a serious disease - imperfect osteogenesis (other names: crystal disease, congenital bone fragility). Prior to treatment, the girl suffered more than 70 fractures (!!), most of which fused with the formation of deformities. In addition, deformities in such patients are formed without fractures, but due to reduced bone strength.

The only method that can provide "protection" from fractures and at the same time eliminate deformations without disturbing the natural growth of bone is the method of using the so-called intramedullary (intraosseous) telescopic fixators - ITF. Our institute has developed an original ITF, which currently has unique properties. During the current hospitalization, the goal of treatment was to correct deformities of the left arm.
On December 20, the correction of the humerus deformity was performed with the installation of a fixator, as well as the installation of an external fixation rod device for metered correction of the forearm deformity (due to the complexity of the deformity one-moment correction is not possible). This will avoid fractures in later life and make the hand almost normally functioning . In the near future it is necessary to address the issues of surgical treatment of the right upper limb.

Mom Vicky, thanks Ufond’s partners for helping and saving her daughter! Accept our gratitude friends! We will definitely follow the fate of the girl.
