While still in the maternity hospital, the pediatrician heard a murmur in Timofey’s heart during the examination, and advised us to do an ultrasound. Unsuspecting, we went for an echocardiography, and there we were shocked by the diagnosis - a congenital heart defect, a secondary atrial septal defect.
Every year, we went for examination in Kyiv and Lviv, to check the child’s condition, because the doctor said that there is a possibility of recovery and closure of the defect up to seven or eight years without surgical intervention. Now Timofey is ten years old and he cannot do without surgical intervention, because at the last examination, the right chambers of the child’s heart have increased in size. We are recommended to perform an operation to close the defect - an occluder. This will help us get rid of the heart defect forever, and the child will live a normal life in the future. The operation will be performed for free, but the occluder is paid and very expensive for us. Timofey’s father is currently serving in the Armed Forces, I work as a nurse in a hospital, we cannot raise the necessary funds ourselves. Timofey Sagan was successfully operated on at the First Territorial Medical Association of the city of Lviv. The atrial septal defect was closed endovascularly using a special device - an occluder. After two hours of surgery, the boy was in the ward with his mother. The work of the heart and circulatory system has been restored. Timofey feels well and is already at home.
