Vlad lives with his mother and grandmother in the city of Izyum, Kharkiv region. The boy’s father died when the child was two and a half years old. According to his mother, Vlad is a very purposeful and intelligent child. Modest, loves intellectual games and with a strong character, with which he goes through life to his goal - to be healthy.
The boy loves to design everything with his own hands, so after school Vlad dreams of entering a technical institute and studying to be an engineer or car mechanic. He already collects and fixes everything from improvised means, but neither his mother nor his grandmother do not understand what he is doing. But they understand that this is how the boy distracts himself from the illness and pain it brings him.
- Vlad is terribly reluctant to talk about his illness, - says Svetlana, his mother. - But I see how he suffers: after school he falls helplessly on the bed and lies for two hours until the pain subsides and his strength recovers. Then he gets up and prepares for school at night, does his homework - I can’t imagine how he can handle it.
When Vlad was born, the doctors at the maternity hospital said that the boy was completely healthy and discharged him three days later.
- He looked like an ordinary baby, - says Svetlana. - He grew and developed like all children. But, over time, I began to notice that the Bishop had a weakness in his legs, and then began to show signs of deformity of the feet. We turned to orthopedists and the genetic center. Then the child was diagnosed with hereditary motor-sensory polyneuropathy (curvature of the feet - ed .).
Vlad’s family immediately began to follow all the recommendations of doctors: massage courses, electrical stimulation, orthopedic shoes, tried to do everything they could, but to no avail, the child was increasingly difficult to walk. And at the age of 8, Vlad underwent the first operation - achilloplasty of the ankle joints.
- We were so happy then, - Svetlana remembers. - Recovering after the operation, my son began to run, ride a bike, lead an active lifestyle and play with peers on the street. But this happiness was short-lived.
At the age of 12, Vladyk began to complain of back pain. The child seemed to have been replaced. He began to lie down a lot, stopped going outside, riding a bicycle, and at school could not sit and 2 lessons.
Last fall, Svetlana noticed that her son had a crooked spine. The deformation increased literally before my eyes. It was difficult for the boy to sit in a chair, his back was tired. And at the end of the year, Vlad was diagnosed with right-sided lumbar scoliosis. The boy was prescribed a corset, which he wears around the clock, even sleeping in it. But this was not enough. The distortion continued to grow. And in the spring of this year, the boy was diagnosed with the most severe degree of scoliosis, 4th.
Svetlana was recommended to consult at the University Clinic of Kharkiv National Medical University. The doctor considered the situation difficult and recommended the operation using a special metal implant. The method will allow the boy to maintain the mobility of the spine and avoid further interventions.
- After the operation, Vladyk will start walking and skating a lot again, - says Svitlana. - It will be easier for him to move, to sit in a chair without pain, internal organs will not be squeezed, he will be able to spend more time on his favorite activity and enjoy life more.
