We have been waiting for our sweet girl for five long years. The pregnancy proceeded well, all ultrasounds were with excellent conclusions, and after the birth, the neonatologist confirmed that the baby was healthy. And a month later, at a scheduled examination, the pediatrician heard a heart murmur and sent us to a cardiologist, to the regional hospital, where after the examination we were given a referral to Kyiv.
At the Amosov Institute, Zoryana was diagnosed with a heart defect - a ventricular septal defect - and was sent for a consultation with a cardiac surgeon. Since the weight of the daughter was small for the operation, we were offered to wait and come in a year. A year later, at a re-examination, the daughter was already diagnosed with three defects - a ventricular septal defect, an atrial septal defect, and an open arterial duct. Zoriana was again sent for a consultation with a cardiac surgeon, who suggested that we close all the defects with an open operation (with opening the chest, cardiac arrest and artificial circulation). We knew how dangerous and traumatic this operation is for a child and wanted to avoid it in every possible way, knowing about more sparing endovascular operations. Therefore, we turned to the Kyiv Institute of Heart for help. After consulting there, we were told that one defect had already closed on its own. There are two more to close. This can be done endovascularly, but for this the weight of the child must be at least 15 kg. (At that time, my daughter weighed 8.5 kg). We were observed at the Heart Institute for a year, after which they offered to do an open type operation, since waiting for the required weight is a risk. And due to frequent diseases, there is a high probability of complications.
We changed hospitals again to get another opinion. Purely by chance, from the news release, we learned about the Lviv Clinical Emergency Hospital and went there for a consultation. And after the examination, we were told that they were ready to perform an endovascular operation even at this weight, closing these two defects with the help of special devices - occluders. They perform the operation for free, but the occluders themselves are expensive. Due to the war and the need for constant home care for children, I was never able to go to work. My husband's salary also does not allow us to purchase these two occluders. And to all this, the situation in Chernihiv and the region is not simple because of the war in our country. Zoryane Snopok successfully performed an operation in the First Territorial Medical Association of Lviv. Multiple heart disease was closed endovascularly using special devices - occluders. An hour after the operation, Zoryana was with her mother in the ward. The work of the heart and blood circulation has been restored. The girl feels well and will be at home on Monday!
