Happiness is hearing

Dear friends!
Fundraising for the treatment of Dani Kalko is closed. The parents paid for the necessary ochlear implant themselves. If there are no objections, the funds raised under the program "Fund. Hearing", will be transferred for the treatment of another ward Ufond Patrick Zhukov .

One-year-old Daniil Kalko from the village of Subbottsy in the Kirovohrad region urgently needs cochlear implantation. The boy was diagnosed with fourth-degree sensorineural hearing loss. Without a cochlear implant, Danya will not learn to speak.

"I think a little more, and I’ll hear from my son" ma… ma-ma - "- Dani’s mother, Irina Kalko, so I want her baby to talk… But for now he just looks intently into his eyes and pulls his hand. Here is such a silent conversation ...

The trouble is that Danya has never heard his mother, and no matter how affectionately she called him, in the ears of a child from birth sounds an endless and resounding silence. The sounds of a polyphonic world do not break through the baby’s illness - absolute deafness.

But when Danya was born, nothing foreshadowed problems. However, he did not shout at all, and it seemed unusual: Irina’s eldest daughter Nastya was a "chatterbox" in her diapers, and the youngest was silent. "Our special child is growing, developing, not like everyone else," Irina consoled herself, not suspecting how special her baby turned out to be.
Grandma was the first to sound the alarm: what is it? The phone rings, and Danya doesn’t listen, you talk to him from behind, and he doesn’t turn around. And soon another alarm bell rang: the grandfather in the yard was pounding loudly with a hammer, next to the stroller in which the baby slept. Fearing that Danka would wake up, Ira jumped out into the yard: "Don’t knock, I probably woke up the child!" - She looked at the stroller - and he is sleeping peacefully!

Tired of driving away terrible thoughts, Irina and Dana went to Kirovograd, to the regional deaf and dumb, but he assured the anxious mother that the child’s hearing is fine, and there is simply no reason to worry. However, the euphoria from such a consultation did not last long - the child refused to "grow up" at the age and did not say anything.

After disbelieving the doctor, the family began to test Danka’s hearing according to online recipes: they shook bags of cereal near their ears, made noises behind their backs, but could not determine whether the boy heard or not. The first hint of the problem and a careful diagnosis was received only in the private office of a doctor-lora in the city of Kropyvnytskyi, Kirovohrad region. From there, referring to the imperfection of his equipment, the doctor sent the Kalko family for examination in Kyiv, at the Institute of Otolaryngology. A.S. Kolomiychenko, where in March of this year nine-month-old Dana was finally diagnosed with "bilateral sensorineural hearing loss of 4 degrees", ie absolute deafness ...

With this diagnosis, the only effective treatment is cochlear implantation, which provides electrical stimulation of the auditory nerve. This miracle of medical technologies allows to restore to the child one hundred percent hearing, but also costs extremely expensively: 800 000 hryvnias.

For those who are unable to pay the huge and unaffordable cost for the average Ukrainian family, the state is funding a free implant program. But - alas! Queues for a free implant have to wait several years. And for a child who is learning to speak, every passing day is extremely important: nature is designed to master speech skills early, up to three years.

Danya was in line for a free implant 369th in line, and his prospect of being operated on this year, and even next year, is zero. After all, the state finances only about a hundred operations a year. To wait so long is to deprive a child of the opportunity to speak!

But where does the family get the money? Irina is currently raising two children: one-year-old Danya and six-year-old Nastya, who is on childcare leave. Ira’s husband worked on the railroad. The lack of money pushed him to a desperate step: to temporarily leave his family and hire to work abroad. Ira was left alone with the children, but did not give up.

From the moment Dane’s diagnosis was announced, she did her best to restore her son’s health. Back in March, together with her husband, Ira called all the regional charities in the hope of getting at least some help. But it turned out that in the Kirovohrad region there are no funds to help children with hearing problems, and in other areas the family refused to help, offered to look for money at the place of residence of the child.

Local journalists first started to raise funds for Dani’s treatment: in Kirovohrad regional newspapers, in a specialized railway newspaper they wrote about Dani, asked to help raise money for the operation, but the scale does not allow to solve the problem on the spot. And then, after long ordeals and endless calls, Ira found information about Ufond - now she sincerely hopes that here her baby can be helped.

Meanwhile, Danya is growing rapidly. Without hearing a speech, he seeks his own ways of "speaking." The kid learned to drum on everything that comes to hand. Bah-bah-bah… this sound can be felt by hand, feel the vibration, at least somehow get out of the vicious circle of absolute silence ...

All together it is quite possible to help Dana to regain her hearing. And any of your help will be invaluable, because a day - two - a month will bring the child’s recovery closer. Both Dani’s father and mother will finally hear what their son is saying ...
